Drama as A&E man climbs up scaffold

AMBULANCES had to be diverted away from a hospital last night after a man scaled up scaffolding near an accident and emergency department.

The drama unfolded at St Vincent's Hospital in Dublin shortly after 7pm when the man apparently came out of A&E and climbed up the scaffolding which straddled 10 floors of a nearby building.

Fire Brigade units and a garda negotiator was also called in. But after nearly three hours the man came down when his father was called to the scene.

It is understood that St Vincent's ambulances were diverted to St James's.
