DPP yet to decide on Fitzpatrick stabbing

GARDAI are still awaiting instructions from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) in relation to the death of Dean Fitzpatrick, Dublin Coroner's Court has heard.

The 23-year-old father-of-one (below) from Clarehall in Dublin 13 died after he was stabbed during an altercation at the Burnell Square apartments, Northern Cross on the Malahide Road, on May 25 last year.

He was taken to Beaumont Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Gardai subsequently arrested Dave Mahon, partner of Dean's mother Audrey Fitzpatrick. He was later released without charge.

Updating the coroner on the investigation into the death, Detective Inspector Tony Howard said that gardai submitted a file to the DPP last November.

He added that gardai are "pretty hopeful" that they will receive directions back "in the very near future".

Coroner Dr Brian Farrell adjourned the inquest for further mention on March 14.

Dean's mother was present in court, however she declined to comment following the short hearing.

His funeral was delayed when a legal dispute arose between his separated parents. The body was eventually released to his partner Sarah O'Rourke following High Court proceedings.
