Don's gun murder to be replayed on TV in hunt for assassin

A RECONSTRUCTION of the chilling murder of crime boss Eamon Dunne will be broadcast on TV in an attempt to obtain fresh information for the Garda investigation team.

CrimeCall, which airs on RTE tomorrow, will outline the level of the investigation. Gardai are appealing for further assistance from the public in relation to the fatal shooting of 'The Don' at the Faussagh House pub in Cabra.

The murder, which was carried out at 10pm on April 23, is regarded by gardai as one of the most significant gangland killings in recent years.

Investigating officers are anxious to speak to people who were inside or outside the pub either before or during the incident, particularly between the hours of 8pm and 10pm.

They are also looking for information on a red Volkswagen four-door Passat with a tow bar, which was outside the pub shortly before the shooting.

The getaway vehicle was found nearby and contained key evidence including a glove as well as a few rounds of ammunition.

The head of Dublin's main drugs gang, Eamon Dunne (34), from Finglas was shot six times in the head and back while attending a birthday party over a month ago.

Gardai believe that four men were involved in the murder -- two masked gunmen, a third who stood guard at the pub door and a fourth man who acted as a getaway driver.

Dunne, who took over when the gang's then leader Martin 'Marlo' Hyland, had been partying with up to 40 people, including some of his known criminal associates.

He was singled out and shot six times in the head and back by his executioner, who knew exactly where he was sitting.

His 17-year-old daughter witnessed the killing.

Reports claim that Dunne tried to shield himself from the bullets by pulling a customer in front of him while the main gunman did likewise in case the Don was armed.

Further CCTV material and forensic evidence is providing invaluable information for the investigating team.

Separately, gardai investigating the murder of Matt Farrell at the Gaelic Bar, Daingean, Co Offaly on April 1 are renewing their appeal for information.

The body of Matt Farrell (64) was found in his pub and a post-mortem examination carried out later that day found that he died as a result of head injuries.

A murder investigation has been ongoing for the last year and Gardai have made a number of arrests.

CrimeCall airs tomorrow night on RTE One at 10.15pm.
