Donal's story watched by 270,000

OVER 270,000 people tuned in to watch Donal Walsh – My Story on New Year's Day.

The documentary about inspirational teenager Donal (below) from Blennerville in Co Kerry aired on RTE Two on Wednesday night as part of its Reality Bites series.

It remains the second most popular programme on the RTE Player, in second place to ROG – The Ronan O'Gara Documentary broadcast on Thursday night.

Official viewing figures from RTE for the O'Gara documentary won't be known until Monday but they're expected to be high if the response on the RTE Player was anything to go by, a spokeswoman said.

"We're very happy with the viewing figures for Donal Walsh – My Story and people are continuing to watch it on the Player," she said.

RTE Two controller Bill Malone said Donal Walsh – My Story had already proven to be the most watched documentary of the Reality Bites series and they were overwhelmed by the response.

"This important public service message has touched the hearts of young people in particular throughout Ireland thanks to the courage of this inspirational young man," Mr Malone said. "Donal Walsh and his message continue to set social media alight."
