Virgin Media Television has announced that Ciara Doherty will replace Ivan Yates on The Tonight Show.
Doherty will begin presenting the show alongside Today FM's Matt Cooper every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, starting in September.
The presenter, who has worked on Virgin Media One's Ireland AM breakfast programme for the last 10 years, said she is looking forward to working alongside Cooper.
"I am delighted to be joining a programme as established as The Tonight Show on Virgin Media One and of course to be working alongside a broadcaster as respected as Matt Cooper," she said.
"It's exciting to be moving into this role at a time when we are all experiencing such change in our lives and uncertainty in the world around us."
The Donegal native, who is also a qualified barrister, added: "This programme has garnered a reputation for being uncompromising and straight talking and I look forward to continuing that tradition.
"It's up to broadcasters to hold people to account and ask the questions our viewers need answered.
"I look forward to taking on that mantle for them, and who knows, we might have some fun along the way."
It comes after veteran broadcaster Yates retired from The Tonight Show, as well as his weekday radio show, The Hard Shoulder, on Newstalk in July.
Speaking on his last radio show last month, the former agriculture minister said he is "not retiring, I'm rewiring".
"I'm going to pivot towards business and do some occasional media event-related work, but the idea of being on the hamster wheel of 24/7 media, I'm not going to be doing that because I'm not able to do it," he told listeners.
Kieran Cuddihy is to take over the reins of the show at the end of this month as part of reshuffle of Newstalk's schedule.
