A 21-year-old DJ is fighting for his life after being attacked with a rock in the front garden of a Dublin home.

Witnesses told how the man, was brutally beaten in a garden in Fortlawn Park Blanchardstown early yesterday morning.

The horrific incident unfolded when a group of men in their late teens or early 20s attempted to steal a Honda car from the driveway of a house.

It appears that when they were unsuccessful, the gang focused their attention on the young DJ, who was sitting in a different car, a Renault Clio, nearby with some of his friends after performing at a house party.

Eyewitness Ferdows Sanehi (18) said he was sitting in his Renault Clio outside their house after DJ-ing at a get together in their home.

He said: "They went out and said they wanted a lift to Hartstown and then one of them hit the man with a bottle and started hitting him.

"The man was chased into the garden where he was beaten with a large rock.

"I looked into the garden and there was this man lying in pool of blood and the side of his face was three times the size it should be, his ear was split open.

"I didn't recognise him at first. Then he looked at me and stumbled over to me and I realised it was Joe."

The car that was stolen and later found on fire at Sheepmore Green.

The victim remains in a critical condition at Beaumont Hospital.

Three men in their early 20s were later arrested and are being held at Blanchardstown Garda Station.
