DJ admits stealing from shops was 'stupid'

A DJ shoplifted more than €250 worth of groceries and clothes from two stores on the same day, a court heard.

Kevin Meredith (43) admitted taking the goods in a moment of "stupidity."

Judge David McHugh fined him €100 at Blanchardstown District Court.

Meredith, of Woodhazel Terrace, Ballymun, pleaded guilty to two counts of theft. He admitted stealing groceries worth €208 at Tesco, Hillcrest, Lucan on July 17 and €57 worth of clothes at Penney's, Omni Centre, Santry in on the same date.

Asked by Judge McHugh why he did it, the defendant replied: "stupidity".

Meredith said he was a DJ and due to return to work shortly.

Fining the defendant, the judge said: "I wouldn't advise you to repeat this."
