Dixons Carphone profits

Dixons Carphone, which will launch a new mobile network in Ireland next summer, delivered a bumper first half financial year, with underlying pre-tax profits up 30pc to £78m (€98m).

The company - formed this year by the merger between Carphone Warehouse and PC World-owner Dixons - said that group first-half like-for-like revenues were 5pc higher at £3.3bn (€4.1bn).

However, the company recorded a final loss of £20m (€25.2m) for the period, largely because of non-cash impairments.
