Deaths driver sent to prison

A man who was once at the centre of a national US debate on mobile phones and driving will spend up to two years behind bars for his second fatal crash, which occurred as he drove a loaded school bus.

Police said Frederick Poust had not slept for 24 hours when he rolled through 10 stops signs and ploughed into a car near a school, killing the car's passenger.

Poust was using a mobile phone in 1999 when he caused a crash that killed a toddler and fuelled debate on driving with mobile phones.

Couple stole to feed wedding

A couple of Pennsylvania newlyweds are behind bars after police say they were caught shoplifting food from a supermarket for their wedding reception.

Arthur Phillips (32) and his bride, 22-year-old Brittany Lurch, were arrested after taking more than $1,000 in merchandise from a supermarket in Centre Hall.

The couple were captured on surveillance footage loading food into a trolley and leaving without paying.

The newspaper says the couple admitted taking the items when arrested. Police say the newlyweds told officers they'd been married a couple days earlier and took the food for their wedding reception that afternoon.

Phillips and Lurch are each charged with misdemeanor counts and are being held on $2,500 bail.
