Property tax deadline has been extended until Friday

The deadline for paying the property tax has been extended to this Friday because of huge volumes of people trying to make contact with Revenue.

The deadline had been today.

But Revenue said it has extended it due to a heavy volume of people paying the tax on homes. Some 8,000 payments are being made every hour, the tax authority said in a statement this morning.

Around 200,000 payments were made over the last two days.

“Due to the very large volume of calls to the Local Property Tax (LPT) Helpline over the last two days and the extremely heavy filing rate of almost 8,000 payment notifications per hour, the Revenue Commissioners have decided to extend the 2015 LPT payment deadline to 4pm on Friday 9th January,” Revenue said.

The LPT Helpline (1890 200 255) will remain open from 8am to 8pm on both today and tomorrow, and from 8am to 4pm on Friday.
