Data firm is sold to rival for €100m

IRISH data centre provider Data Electronics has been acquired by a UK-based rival for £87.6m (€100m).

The cash deal with Telecity, one of the biggest players in the European data centre provider sector, will create a bigger pool of resources, talent, technology and infrastructure.

Data Electronics, founded in 1975, employs 55 people and has recently completed a €15m expansion of an eco-friendly data centre in north Dublin, which followed an initial €25m investment in 2008.

The company is led by chief executive Maurice Mortell (inset) and had sales of €15.6m in 2010, an increase of 11pc on the previous year.
