Big Brother contestant Hughie Maughan has called on RTE to sign up more household names for the next series of Dancing With The Stars, instead of "just a model who nobody knows".

Marty Morrissey, Conor McGregor's sister Erin and Nathan Carter's younger brother Jake are said to be close to saying yes to taking part in the series, but Hughie only knows RTE broadcaster star Marty.

"Nathan Carter is obviously really well-known in Ireland, he would be good. I don't know who his brother is," Hughie told the Herald.

Hughie, who took part in last year's series, said they were "scraping the barrel" with bodybuilder Erin, who is best-known for being the MMA star's sister.

Hughie also had some advice for the producers, saying they should con- sider asking some of the Xpose presenters to take part.

"When you look across the board of Irish TV, there's not many people, is there, who are famous? There's just people on the news. There's not that many people for them to choose from," he said.

"They should get people who present on Xpose or somebody like that, rather than just a model who nobody really knows."

However, Hughie doesn't think being the most famous participant will guarantee victory.

"In Ireland it's not a big thing anyway is it?" he said.

"We don't have a lot of reality TV or big shows like that. I don't think it matters how well-known somebody is.

"I was only known for Big Brother and I got asked to do it."

Hughie also had some advice for the next crop of celebrities strutting their stuff on the dance floor, and said they should enjoy it while it lasts.

"It goes by very quickly. When you're eliminated, it's like, how is it all over already?" he said.

"You've been paid to do something really fun. When would I ever have done ballroom dancing? It was the greatest experience of my life."

Hughie made international headlines on the series for the over-application dark fake tan he wore.

He is now hoping to release his own line of the product in the coming months, with help from his boyfriend, Ryan Ruckledge.
