A RELATIVE of one of the families that escaped a horrific car crash with their lives has said their survival was "miraculous".
Thomas Burke (33), his wife Anne, their six children and two nephews were returning home to Bantry, Co Cork, after visiting relatives in Tralee when they were in a head-on collision with another car on Monday night.
The family in the other vehicle - who were on holiday from Britain - also survived the collision.
The Burke family had suffered the loss of Thomas' father Mickey earlier this month.
Now the Burke's are convinced that their father was watching over the family.
"We could easily have been out buying 10 coffins after it but thank God everything is OK. They have lots of injuries but it could have been so much worse," Thomas' sister Julia said.
"I am convinced that it was him (my father) that saved them. Something miraculous happened there," she added.
A total of 15 people were brought to hospital after the accident, including 11 children and a nine-month-old baby.
"Our thoughts are with the other family involved because they were here on holiday."
