Dad stole chainsaw and tools from store

A FATHER of three who stole a chainsaw and tools from a hardware shop has been jailed for four months.

Patrick Maughan (36) admitted stealing twice from the same store in north Dublin.

Maughan, of Carton Road, Poppintree, pleaded guilty to stealing from Homebase, Northwood, on June 20, 2013 and last February 19.

Dublin District Court heard he was stopped by security staff taking the chainsaw in one incident and was identified on CCTV in the other. The value of goods not recovered was €279.

Maughan had been a landscape gardener but lost his job as a result of a drug addiction that spiralled out of control, his solicitor Matthew de Courcy said.

Judge Bryan Smyth sentenced Maughan to four month in prison.
