A FATHER-of-six who broke two sets of red traffic lights and undertook vehicles at speed on a busy dual carriageway said he was fleeing an individual who assaulted him in his own home.
Larry Connors (30) said he was being attacked by someone in his home, and he ran out and jumped into his car to escape. He claimed he immediately pulled over his car to the side of the road when he saw the garda patrol car, and realised that he was safe.
Connors, of Knockmore Crescent in Tallaght, admitted before Tallaght District Court to a charge of dangerous driving.
The incident took place on the Tallaght Bypass around 8.20pm on April 18.
The court heard that Connors is unemployed, and cares for his wife who suffers from epilepsy.
Judge John Coughlan fined Connors €200 and banned him from driving for one year.
