Dad-of-five knocked garda to the ground

A FATHER-of-five pushed a garda three times in the chest after the officer was called to a domestic incident at his home.

Michael Miley (46) knocked the garda off his feet and on to the ground.

Judge Denis McLoughlin ordered Miley to complete 200 hours community service in lieu of four months in prison.

The defendant, of Judge Darley's Hostel, Dublin 8 admitted before Blanchardstown District Court to obstructing gardai at Wellview Avenue on November 6, 2013.


Garda Paul Oates said gardai were called to the defendant's home following reports of a domestic incident.

Gda Oates said Miley pushed Garda John Santry three times, knocking him off his feet.

Defence solicitor Fiona Brennan said Miley was very sorry for his behaviour.

She said Miley, his partner and their five children were evicted from their home shortly after this incident.

Ms Brennan said Miley and his family are currently waiting to be rehoused.

The defendant also admitted to a breach of the peace at Church Road, Mulhuddart, on May 3, 2014 and stealing two bottles of cider, worth €7.98, from Aldi in Mulhuddart on January 18, 2014.
