Cromcastle Court to get significant upgrade on homes

RESIDENTS in Cromcastle Court are celebrating their latest victory after securing a significant investment to upgrade their homes.
The residents committee, along with the support of some local reps, have been petitioning the council for a series of upgrades since plans to redevelop the flats were abandoned.
Dublin City Council has secured funding to replace some 500 windows, upgrade the heating system and install controls to allow people to control the heating in their own apartments.
Gary Lester, from the Cromcastle Court Residents Committee, told the Herald that people in the development were "delighted" with the news.
Previously they had secured safer fuse boxes, smoke alarms and safety doors for the decades-old blocks.
"The windows are not fire-proof and they were costing DCC huge money to heat the apartments," Mr Lester said.
"All of the flats are now full of young families so it's great that we are able to get these upgrades done," he added.
Next on the agenda for the resident's committee is to have a playground developed in a nearby green area for children in the flats.
Local Sinn Fein councillor Denise Ward said that the investment was "hard fought" in the Coolock estate which is over forty years old.
