Cripple tried to get painkillers

A ONE-legged seaman tried to get painkillers with a false prescription as he suffers terrible phantom pains, a court heard.

Laurence Pullen (54) lost his leg in a motorbike accident.

Judge David McHugh applied the probation act.

The defendant, of Silloge Green in Ballymun, admitted before Blanchardstown District Court to using a false prescription at Hickey's Pharmacy, Meakstown in Finglas on May 6 last.

ADDICTED

Sergeant Walter Sweeney said Pullen tried to get painkillers with a false prescription.

Defence lawyer Jennifer Jackson said Pullen previously worked as a seaman, but he lost his leg in a motorbike accident on Dublin's O'Connell Street more than a decade ago.

Ms Jackson said Pullen suffers terrible phantom pains and is addicted to painkillers.

He was trying to get tablets with the false prescription.

The court also heard Pullen is a widower and is on disability benefit.
