woman's nose 'bled all night' in alleged assault

A man has appeared in court charged with seriously assaulting a woman in the south city centre.

Luke Strain (23) is alleged to have assaulted the woman, leaving her with a neck injury and bloody nose.

The case against him was adjourned at Dublin District Court after a judge asked for a medical issue to be clarified.

Strain, of Philipsburgh Avenue, Fairview, is charged with assault causing harm at Andrew's Lane on November 1, 2012.

A State Solicitor said the DPP had directed summary trial of the charge at District Court level on a guilty plea only.

This means the case will be sent for jury trial in Dublin Circuit Criminal Court if the defendant is contesting the charge.

A medical report on the alleged victim's injuries was presented to the court. The court heard that after the alleged assault, the woman's nose had not stopped bleeding by the following morning and she had an injury in her neck six days later.

Judge Victor Blake said there was no reference in the report to her possible return to hospital. He adjourned the case to July 11.
