A YOUNG woman has appeared in court charged with stealing more than €4,000 in cash from a Dublin pharmacy over a two-month period.

Michelle Coyle (24) had the case against her adjourned at Blanchardstown District Court.

Ms McCoyle, with an address at Maynooth Park, Maynooth, Co Kildare, is charged with 29 counts of theft. The offences are alleged to have happened at Boots, Liffey Valley Shopping Centre, on dates between June 6 and August 17, 2013.

The individual sums allegedly stolen range from €18 to €420.

A state solicitor told Judge David McHugh that the DPP was consenting to summary disposal of the case on a guilty plea only.

This means that if the defendant contests the charges she will be sent for trial by judge and jury to Dublin Circuit Criminal Court, which has tougher potential sentencing powers on conviction.

No details of the alleged thefts were disclosed, and the accused has not yet indicated how she intends to plead to the charges.

Ms Coyle did not address the court during the brief hearing, and Judge McHugh adjourned the case to give her time to consult her lawyer.

He also granted free legal aid after there were no objections from gardai.
