Widower stopped by gardai sped off

A MOTORIST did a U-turn and drove off at speed through a red light after he had pulled over to the side of the road for gardai, a court has told.

Joseph Connors (43) begged a judge not to disqualify him, saying he is a widower with six children and he needs to be available to drive.

Judge Anthony Halpin convicted and fined Connors €300 but did not put him off the road.

The defendant, of Daletree Place, Ballycullen, admitted before Tallaght District Court to a charge of careless driving.

While driving away from gardai, Connors also drove through a roundabout at speed before eventually pulling up outside his home.
