Warrant for cheque fraud accused

A TRADESMAN accused of stealing €1,000 by altering an OAP's cheque has had a warrant issued for his arrest.

Brian Hickey (31) committed the fraud after going to the 84-year-old's house to repair a music system he had installed previously, a court heard.

He had been accused of theft and fraud charges but the warrant was issued when he failed to appear in court for the hearing of his case.

Hickey, of Elmcastle Close, Tallaght, was charged with stealing money and deception at the EBS, Crumlin Village in the incident in August last year.

The prosecuting garda told the court that Hickey went to the victim's home a year after he installed the stereo.

She invited him in and he charged her €278 when he had finished. She paid him by cheque and he altered it to read €1,278 and cashed it at EBS in Crumlin, the court heard

It was claimed he had admitted the offence and showed remorse after his arrest.
