Waiter denies groping teen girl

A WAITER has denied that he sexually assaulted a 15-year-old girl by groping and trying to kiss her in a restaurant.

Durga Bohara (37) is alleged to have carried out an assault on the "distressed" girl when her mother and grandmother stepped out of the restaurant for a cigarette, leaving her alone at the table.

A court heard that Bohara denies the charge.

He had replied "it is not true" when charged with the offence.

Bohara, of Alverno Park, Willow Park, Athlone, Co Westmeath, appeared before Blanchardstown District Court charged with sexually assaulting the girl. The alleged sexual assault took place at Bumbai restaurant, Riverfront Shopping Centre, Leixlip on July 8, 2011.

The DPP had ruled that the allegation should be dealt with in the District Court and a judge had accepted jurisdiction.

Outlining the allegation for the court, Garda Sergeant Maria Callaghan had said the girl, her mother and grandmother were the only people in the restaurant at the time.

Sgt Callaghan said Bohara was serving them, and after they had their starters, the victim's mother and grandmother went out to have a smoke.

Sgt Callaghan alleged the girl was at the table on her own when she was approached by Bohara and was asked a number of questions.

It is alleged that he then grabbed her by her two arms, shook her, commented on her body and felt her face. It is also alleged he squeezed her cheeks, attempted to kiss her and put his hand on her breast.

Defence solicitor said Bohara denied the charge. Judge Anthony Halpin adjourned the matter to a court in the Criminal Courts of Justice.
