Van driver charged with €10k ESB theft

A DUBLIN man was stopped driving a van with €10,000 worth of stolen ESB cables in the back, it is alleged.

Michael Collins (22) had the case against him adjourned when he appeared in Blanchardstown District Court on a charge of possession of stolen property.

The accused, with an address at Ramilies Road, Ballyfermot, is charged with the alleged offence at the N7, Clondalkin on June 16, 2013.

Sgt Maria Callaghan said gardai saw a van travelling on the N7 at 2.15am on the morning in question with a heavy load.

They stopped it and it was alleged that a large quantity of electrical copper cable bearing the ESB logo was observed in the back of the vehicle.

Judge David McHugh accepted jurisdiction and remanded the defendant on continuing bail, to appear again on June 12.
