Uninsured driver (23) begs judge not to impose ban

A YOUNG motorist caught driving without insurance has begged a judge not to ban him as he will lose his job.

Stephen Eccles (23) works in the motor industry and he needs to be able to drive, Tallaght district court heard.

Judge John Coughlan fined Eccles €1,500.

Eccles, of Brookview Close in Tallaght, was found guilty of driving without insurance.

Garda Stephen Nealon said he stopped Eccles driving a 1999-registered Volkswagen Golf at Rossfield Avenue in Tallaght shortly before 10.30pm on November 10 last.

Documents

Gda Nealon said he made the lawful demand for Eccles to produce his insurance to a station of his choice within 10 days but that he failed to do so.

The court heard Eccles has five previous convictions, though none for driving without insurance.

Defence solicitor Kevin Tunney said Eccles had produced some documents to the garda but they were not enough.

Mr Tunney said the defendant is working in the motor trade and he would lose his job if he is banned from driving.

Judge Coughlan convicted and fined Eccles €1,500 but did not impose a disqualification.
