Thief who stole fish for BBQ lost job

A WORKER with a specialist seafood company who stole more than €100 worth of fish from his employers for a family barbecue ended up losing his job and being prosecuted for the theft.

Tadeusz Konieczny (52) was employed at the firm's warehouse in north Dublin when he snatched the fish.

Judge Ann Watkin put him on a one-year peace bond after he paid compensation for the theft. She refused to leave him without a criminal record, saying this would be "conspiring" to prevent future employers finding out about the offence.

Konieczny, of Heritage House, Lyreen Manor, Maynooth, Co Kildare pleaded guilty to the theft at Kish Fish, Newtown Industrial Estate, Coolock, in October last year.
