Thief took tags off to steal two polo shirts

A SOCCER coach used a detagging device to steal two polo shirts from a sports store, a court heard.

Thomas Grimes (43) was caught with the items shortly after he left the shop in Dundrum.

Judge Bridget Reilly ordered a community service report and adjourned sentencing to April.

The defendant, of Ferryman's Crossing, Seville Place, Dublin 1, admitted before Dun Laoghaire District Court to charges of theft and possession of articles for use in a theft.

Garda Padraig McCormack said the defendant entered Lifestyle Sports shortly before 3pm on June 8 last year.

Gda McCormack said Grimes used a detagger to remove the electronic labels off two polo shirts, each valued at €65 and walked out of the shop without paying for the items.
