Teens accused of robbing man of €500 and phone

THESE are the two teenagers accused of robbing another young man of his mobile phone and more than €500 in cash.

James Murphy (18) and Dean Daly (19) are also accused of seriously assaulting the young man during an incident in south Dublin.

They are facing trial by judge and jury in the circuit court, where the penalties are more severe, after the Director of Public Prosecutions ruled the matters were too serious for the district court.

Judge Anthony Halpin adjourned the case for six weeks for the service of the book of evidence.

Murphy, of Alderwood Rise, and Daly, of Maplewood Park, both in Tallaght, appeared before Tallaght District Court charged with robbery and serious assault.

The alleged incident took place at Alderwood Lawn in Tallaght on April 28 last year.

It is alleged that the two attacked another young man and, during the course of the assault, they robbed his Samsung mobile phone, worth €300, and €540 in cash.

Garda Sergeant Carmel Henry said the DPP has directed trial on indictment in the circuit court on the charges.

Defence solicitors Kevin Tunney and Michael Hennessy were assigned on free legal aid.
