Teen's abuse at off-duty officer

AN OFF-duty garda was insulted and called a "ginger b*****d" by a teenage onlooker as he was trying to deal with five other youths, a court heard.

Graham Tallant (19) shouted at the men "just walk away, f*** him, what can he do" during the public order incident in south Dublin.

Judge John O'Connor ordered Tallant to enter into a peace bond for six months.

Tallant, of Meadowlands Park, Mountown in Dun Laoghaire, had admitted before Dun Laoghaire District Court to failing to follow the directions of a garda at Glenageary Avenue in Dun Laoghaire on June 26, 2012.

SHOUTED

Garda Neil Doyle said he was in plainclothes and off-duty when Tallant approached him around 6pm. The garda said he was trying at the time to deal with five men who were suspected of criminal damage.

He said Tallant approached him and started shouting; "f**k him, what can he do, just walk away from that ginger b*****d".

Garda Doyle said he directed Tallant to leave the area but he ignored the warning, shouting at him, "who's going to make me, you make me, you f***in pr***".

He was again told to go home but he failed to do so and was arrested following a struggle.
