Teen fined over no insurance

A TEENAGER who drove at speed past a garda car near his home has escaped a ban for driving without insurance.

Ryan Ford (19) had bought the car a few days before and claimed he thought he was insured on his mother's policy.

Judge Anthony Halpin fined him €500 but did not ban him from driving.

The judge said he believed some young people should not be allowed to drive as testosterone runs to their heads.

Ford, of Allenton Lawns, Tallaght, admitted before Tallaght District Court to driving without insurance or a licence.

The court heard Ford has four previous convictions, including two for dangerous driving. He is currently banned from driving for two years.

Defence solicitor Michael Hennessy said his client had just bought the car and thought he was insured to drive it.

He later arranged insurance on his mother's policy.
