Squatters partied as owners holidayed

A FATHER-of-one who was among a group of squatters attending a party in a house while the owners were away on holiday thought the others were "minding" the property.

John Maguire (32) was one of several intruders at the house and was tracked down through fingerprint evidence afterwards.

Judge Ann Watkin fined him €350 at Dublin District Court.

Maguire, with an address at Beechdale Close, Blessington, Co Wicklow, pleaded guilty to trespassing at Park House, Patrick Street, Dublin 8 on dates between February 11 and March 31 last year.

The defendant explained there was a party on in the house and he was invited.

"It was my understanding that the people were minding the house for the occupants," said Maguire, who was a chronic drug user at the time.
