Shotgun teen given jail term

A 17-year-old will spend four weeks in custody after he was caught trying to hide a sawn-off shotgun.

The teen, claimed to gardai that someone asked him to hide a bag. He said he did not know the bag contained a gun.

Gardai rejected his story and the court heard he has failed to engage with the probation service.

The teen pleaded guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to possession of a sawn-off shotgun on Herberton Road, Rialto on November 2, 2010.

Defence counsel, Lynn O'Sullivan said her client has no previous convictions.

Duo in Tiger trial enter plea

THE trial of two men accused of a €2.28m Tiger raid six years ago has continued in legal argument.

David Byrne (39), of Old Brazeel Way, Knocksedan, Swords, Co Dublin and Niall Byrne (29), of Crumlin Road Flats, Crumlin Rd, Dublin have both pleaded not guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to falsely imprisoning the Richardson family at Ashcroft, Raheny, north Dublin city on March 13 and 14, 2005.

Both men are alleged to have held Mr Richardson,, and his family hostage as part of a raid in March 2005.
