Shoplifter on cocktail of drugs

A DUBLIN man was on a cocktail of crack cocaine and other drugs when he shoplifted baby monitors and clothes from a maternity store.

Gavin Hudson (33) also stole 11 Ireland jerseys from a tourism office, Dublin District Court heard.

A judge said he would give him a suspended sentence if he paid compensation for the monitors and baby clothes, which were never recovered.

Hudson, with an address at O'Sullivan Avenue, Ballybough, pleaded guilty to two counts of theft. Hudson had been on a "wide variety" of drugs including crack cocaine at the time, his solicitor Declan Fahy said.

Judge James Faughnan fined him €250 on the jerseys charge. He adjourned the baby goods charge until May 16 and said he would impose a three-month suspended sentence and €200 fine if the compensation was paid.
