A DUBLIN man has appeared in court accused of sexually assaulting a young woman on New Year's Day last year.
The 32-year-old man is facing trial by judge and jury in the Circuit Court where the penalties are more severe after the DPP ruled that the matters were too serious for the District Court.
The accused appeared before Blanchardstown District Court charged with sexual assault, contrary to Section 2 of the Criminal Law (Rape Amendment) Act, 1990.
The alleged incident took place at a house in west Dublin on January 1, 2013. A State solicitor said the DPP has directed trial on indictment on the charges in the Circuit Court.
Judge David McHugh adjourned the matter for six weeks for the service of the book of evidence. Defence solicitor Terence Hanahoe was assigned on free legal aid.
