A REVELLER laughed at gardai as he urinated over a mattress and blanket in a garda station cell.

Anthony Lambe (44) started drinking after a fight with his girlfriend, Swords District Court heard.

Judge Denis McLoughlin ordered Lambe to pay €200 for the damage he caused and adjourned sentencing to a date in May.

The defendant, of Kelly's Bay Rocks, Skerries, admitted criminal damage at Balbriggan Garda Station yesterday.

Sgt Bob Kavanagh said gardai were called to Keane's Bus Bar in Skerries at 11.35pm following reports that bar staff had refused entry to a drunken male, who was then refusing to leave the area.

Sgt Kavanagh said Lambe repeatedly banged on the door of the pub and was directed by gardai to leave the area four times.

He was taken to Balbriggan Garda Station where he urinated on the blanket, mattress and floor of the station cell.

Sgt Kavanagh said Lambe "laughed at gardai" as he caused the damage, amounting to €200.

Defence lawyer Steven Dixon said Lambe has had a long-term problem with alcohol.

He had it under control, but started drinking again after a fight with his girlfriend.

Mr Dixon said Lambe blacked out and does not remember the incident.
