Restaurant drunk hit trophy bat from wall

A REVELLER who knocked an ornamental baseball bat off a restaurant wall after staff refused to serve him a drink has been ordered to do community service.

Martin Maughan (30) was drunk and hit out at the wall when he was told he couldn't get any more alcohol.

Judge Dermot Dempsey ordered him to complete 200 hours' community service in lieu of four months in prison.

Maughan, of Forest Boulevard, River Valley in Swords, had admitted before Swords District Court to public drunkenness and abusive behaviour at TGI Friday's, Airside Park, in Swords. on March 10.

Garda Brian Reidy said Maughan had been drinking in the restaurant. He left, but returned a short time later very drunk. The staff refused to serve him but he demanded more drink, lost his temper and ended up pulling an ornamental baseball bat off the wall.
