Pensioner stole iPhone in shop

A PENSIONER has been found guilty of snatching another man's iPhone while he was shopping in a Dublin centre store.

David Strauss (77) pocketed the phone after the victim put it down on a shelf in Brown Thomas while he was buying clothes.

The accused had denied a theft charge, insisting he only picked up the phone to find out who owned it in case somebody else stole it.

Strauss, with an address at North Circular Road, pleaded not guilty to stealing the phone at Brown Thomas, Grafton Street on November 16, 2011.

Judge Patricia McNamara found the facts proven but put the case back for two weeks for gardai to establish whether he had a previous conviction

Judge McNamara said she was satisfied a theft had taken place and remanded Strauss on continuing bail for sentencing.
