A "relentless" thief who broke into a parked car was restrained by a brave passer-by until gardai arrived.
Shane Reilly (42), described by a judge as a "career criminal", hurled abuse at the man when he was confronted.
Reilly, of St Fintan's Terrace, Cabra, pleaded guilty to criminal damage and breach of the peace.
The father-of-one was also charged with the theft of €199 worth of Oil of Olay products.
He was given a five-month suspended sentence.
Dublin District Court heard Reilly was seen smashing one of the car's windows in Kings Inn Court, Phibsboro, last July 25. As he was leaning into the car, he was confronted by the passer-by.
Reilly became threatening and abusive to the man, who restrained him until gardai arrived.
In another incident, Reilly went to Boots in Phibsboro and stole €199 worth Oil of Olay products.
The court heard he had 130 previous convictions.
Judge Brian O'Shea remarked that the passer-by "thankfully had the fortitude" to restrain the accused until gardai arrived.
Reilly had been committing offences on "effectively a relentless basis" up until a few months ago, the judge added.
The court heard the Oil of Olay was stolen to help finance a drug habit.
Reilly had an "outrageous" list of convictions, the judge said.
He suspended the prison sentence for a year.
