Passenger €7 short of full fare ran from taxi

A PASSENGER who ran from a taxi without paying the full fare ended up in court after the gardai were called.

Christopher Kelly (21) was drunk when he fled because he was €7 short of the €27 fare.

Judge Michael Walsh fined him €200 after he admitted a theft charge and paid €20 to the driver to cover the "hassle and inconvenience" he had to put up with.

Dublin District Court heard the incident happened at Airside Retail Park, Swords on August 2, 2015 at 1.55am.

The taxi driver picked Mr Kelly up in the city centre and brought him to the Wright Venue nightclub.

After paying €20 of the fare, the accused jumped out and made his way towards the club.

The taxi driver called the gardai. Kelly, of St Teresa's Gardens, was "simply drunk" at the time, his lawyer said.
