Two men accused of causing more than €40,000 worth of fire damage to Wheatfield Prison have been sent forward for trial.

Christopher Kelly (25) and Jordan Kennedy (19) were served with the book of evidence when they appeared on bail before Blanchardstown District Court.

Mr Kelly, with an address at Rathdown Road, Dublin 7, and Mr Kennedy, of Dunsink Gardens, Finglas, are accused of causing criminal damage by means of arson at Wheatfield Prison last April 10.

It is alleged the damage amounted to €44,000, the court heard.

A state solicitor said the book of evidence was ready and had been served on the accused, who go forward to the next sittings of Dublin Circuit Criminal Court.

Judge Gerard Jones gave the men the formal alibi caution.

The judge assigned defence solicitors Fiona Brennan and Sandra Frayne as well as two junior counsel and one senior counsel on free legal aid.

The accused have not yet indicated a plea to the charges.

They were remanded on the same bail terms to appear before the circuit court in January.
