Mum stole from gran visiting hospital

A MOTHER-of-two has been given a suspended sentence for stealing a handbag from a grandmother who was visiting her sick grandchild at Crumlin Children's Hospital.

Siobhan Farrell, (35), with an address at Croftwood Drive, Ballyfermot, was with her chronically ill daughter, who was being treated, when she snatched the other woman's bag, which had her mobile phone and €300 in cash in it.

The accused was going through a "bad time in her life" when the incident happened on October 17, 2012. Her social welfare had been stopped and she had suffered bereavements.

Judge Michael Coughlan suspended a three-month sentence for two years at Dublin District Court.
