A DUBLIN man who handled a stolen press pass was caught by gardai after he stole a coffee machine from a department store, a court heard.

Norman Duff (41) handled the press card which had previously been reported as stolen by its owner.

Judge Anne Watkin adjourned the matters for sentencing.

The defendant, with an address at Holly Park in Shankill, admitted before Dun Laoghaire District Court to handling a stolen press pass at Debenhams, Henry Street, Dublin 1 on December 19, 2014.

He also admitted to stealing a coffee machine, worth €140, at the same time and place.

Sergeant Peadar McCann said the press pass was returned to its owner and the coffee machine was returned to the store in a saleable condition.

Duff further admitted to stealing a bicycle at Marine Road in Dun Laoghaire on December 1, 2014.

In relation to that incident, Sgt McCann said Duff was seen on CCTV removing a bike, worth €500, from the Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Council sheds.

Sgt McCann said Duff was identified on CCTV cameras and the bike was not recovered.

Duff further admitted to stealing DVDs, worth €29, from Tesco in Dun Laoghaire on April 23, 2014 and to taking a headset, worth €10, from East Pier car park in Dun Laoghaire on March 3, 2014.

The court heard that the defendant has six previous convictions.
