Man threw child down in assault

A MAN who flung his bicycle on the ground with a child still strapped to an attached seat will be sentenced next year for attacking a taxi driver.

Another driver saw Robert Garwe (41) having "no regard for the baby" as he fought with Dermot Geraghty in a supermarket car park after the cabbie yelled at him for cutting across the back of his Jeep on the bike.

The witness said she saw Garwe take the lock off his bike and "casually" swing it at Mr Geraghty's head before lifting his bike and taking the child to a creche.

His 36-year-old victim suffered a skull fracture and scalp lacerations. Garwe, of College View Apartments, Ballymun, pleaded guilty to assault causing harm at Sillogue Road, Ballymun, on November 22, 2011.

Defence said he suffers from post traumatic stress disorder due to his childhood in Zimbabwe during the civil war.
