Man sues after 15ft car plunge

A MAN was left with severe spinal injuries after his car skidded on loose chippings and went down a 15ft embankment, the High Court has heard.

Declan Reilly (39), of Woodview Park, Dundalk, Co Louth, is suing Louth County Council for allegedly leaving a road in a dangerous condition.

It is alleged that the council did not provide effective precautions concerning the roadworks on the Dundalk- Carrickmacross Road at Red Bog on the day of the accident, September 13, 2006.

The council denies it was responsible for the accident and pleads contributory negligence including speeding.

The hearing continues.
