Man hit with bolt cutters by attacker on his balcony

A YOUNG man attacked a homeowner with a pair of bolt cutters after he was disturbed on the balcony of the duplex apartment, a court has heard.

Luke Power (20) had been released from prison days earlier and had gone on a drink and drugs binge.

Judge David McHugh imposed a four-month prison sentence.

The defendant, of Sheepmore Gardens, Blanchardstown, admitted before Blanchardstown District Court to charges of trespass, possession of articles for use in a theft and assault.

The incident took place at Windmill Court, Porterstown, Dublin, shortly before 1am last August 17.

Sgt Maria Callaghan said the victim disturbed Power on the balcony of his apartment as he tried to break the lock on a bi-cycle.

Sgt Callaghan said Power assaulted the man with a pair of bolt cutters, hitting him on the elbow.

Power tried to flee the area, but was caught and arrested by gardai.

Sgt Callaghan said a second man ran from the area before gardai arrived.

Imposing the four-month sentence, Judge McHugh said he was satisfied that a prison sentence was appropriate, and that Power was "looking for a miracle in hoping to avoid being sent to prison".
