A man who was caught attempting to flush cannabis down a toilet when gardai forced entry into his home to search it has been convicted and fined €200.
Brendan Whitehouse (46) was caught when gardai managed to gain access.
He was in the process of flushing the small amount of cannabis down the toilet and was arrested, Balbriggan District Court heard.
The defendant, of Pinewood Green Avenue in Balbriggan, pleaded guilty to obstructing gardai in the course of their duty last December 18 at his home address.
He had 15 previous convictions.
Defence solicitor Siobhan Mac Niallais said the defendant was unemployed, adding: "He apologised and explained he had been using cannabis for medicinal purposes.
"He has Crohn's disease and has spent several weeks in hospital and is getting ongoing treatment," she added.
Judge Dermot Dempsey imposed a conviction and fined the defendant €200 for the offence of obstruction.
