Man faces trial for child porn and sex assault in north Dublin
A DUBLIN man has been charged with sexually assaulting a young girl and production of child pornography in the north of the county.
Kevin Muldoon (32) is alleged to have committed the offences on dates last year, and is further accused of possession of nearly 1,000 images of child pornography at another address.
The locations of the alleged offences cannot be published by court order.
He was granted bail subject to conditions when he appeared in Swords District Court.
Judge Conal Gibbons remanded him in custody with consent to bail once Mr
Muldoon is able to take it up.
He was immediately returned for trial to Dublin Circuit Criminal Court.
Mr Muldoon is charged with three counts of sexual assault on a girl and one of producing child pornography at one location in north county Dublin on a date in May 2014.
He is also charged with possession of child pornography at a second address in the Fingal area on another date a week later. It is alleged that there were 970 images of children with their genitals exposed or engaged in sexual acts.
Garda Donal O’Connell said he arrested the accused at Corrig Avenue, Dun Laoghaire, at 9.05am on Wednesday and brought him to Swords Garda Station.
He was charged at 10.45am and made no reply after caution. Judge Gibbons granted bail in the defendant’s own cash bond of €500, with an independent surety of €2,000.
No cash lodgement was required for the surety.
He must provide a phone number to the gardai and sign on at his local garda station.
The court heard the DPP was directing trial on indictment on all charges.
A book of evidence was ready and was served on the accused.
Following submissions from the prosecution and the defence, the judge ruled that the accused could be identified but not the locations of the alleged offences.
The judge urged the press not to publish Mr Muldoon’s home address.
“A person who is charged with an offence stands innocent before the court,” Judge Gibbons said.
“Just because you are charged with an offence doesn’t mean any more than that.”
Judge Gibbons gave the defendant the formal warning that he must provide any alibi details within 14 days.
Mr Muldoon stood with his arms by his side throughout the hearing.
He nodded to acknowledge that he understood the alibi warning, but did not otherwise address the court.
The court heard the alleged victim was underage.
