Man accused of handling €2k worth of stolen goods

A MAN has appeared in court charged with handling over €2,000 worth of stolen equipment at his Dublin home.

George Gheorghescu (31) was allegedly caught during a wider garda operation which allegedly uncovered up to €30,000 worth of stolen property.

A garda witness said a substantial amount of that stolen property had already been identified by its owners.

Judge Patrick McMahon adjourned the matter for six weeks for the DPP's directions on the charges.

The defendant, who is unemployed, appeared before Blanchardstown District Court charged with three counts of handling stolen property. The alleged incident took place at Gheorghescu's home at Huntstown Drive in Hunts-town on April 1 last.

It is alleged the defendant handled over €2,500 worth of stolen property, including stolen grinders, chopsaws, hammer drills, screw guns, worth €1,950, as well as a laptop computer and a walkie-talkie.
