'Lying Eyes' appeal starts

SHARON 'Lying Eyes' Collins today began a two-day appeal against her conviction for conspiring to murder her wealthy lover and his two sons.

The 47-year-old mum-of-two from Kildysart in Ennis, Co Clare, is serving six years for the plot against businessman PJ Howard and his sons, Robert and Niall Howard, in September, 2006.

She had been found guilty, in July, 2008, of conspiring to kill PJ, Robert and Niall Howard between August 1 and September, 26, 2006.

The jury also found her co-accused, Essam Eid (54), an Egyptian with a Las Vegas address, guilty of demanding €100,000 with menaces from Robert Howard on September 26, 2006.

He was found not guilty of robbing the offices of Downes & Howard, the previous night but guilty of handling a stolen Toshiba laptop on September 26 and being in possession of items stolen from the offices in room 218 of the Two Mile Inn Hotel in Limerick, on September 27, 2006, the date of his arrest.

Today, Sharon Collins will start a two day hearing to protest her innocence before three judges at the Court of Criminal Appeal.

Her trial heard she used the internet to hire a hitman to kill off the Howard family to get at PJ's €60m fortune which his sons were due to inherit.

Under the alias "Lying Eyes," she made contact with a website "hitmanforhire" run by Eid.
