Learner motorist called gardai p****s and pigs after being stopped and tried to drive off

A LEARNER driver hurled abuse at gardai when they stopped him because he thought they were going to impound his car.

Daniel Crosby (23) had his car seized a week earlier and "lost the head", thinking it was going to happen again.

Crosby, of St Joseph's Way, Ballymun, admitted using threatening, abusive and insulting behaviour.

Judge Hugh O'Donnell fined him €250 at Dublin District Court for the incident that happened at Glasanaon Road, Finglas, on June 14 last year.

When gardai asked to search Crosby's car, he became immediately aggressive, calling them "pr***s" and "pigs".

He made an attempt to start the car and drive away, but one of the gardai reached in and took the keys from the ignition.

Gardai had stopped him a week before and seized his car, his solicitor Michael Hanahoe said.

His learner permit was out of date and he was afraid the car was going to be seized again, Mr Hanahoe said.
